Apple appears to release iPhone 8 design via HomePod documentation
In the firmware of Apple’s upcoming HomePod speaker, details can be found about the design of presumably the iPhone 8. It is a design without screen edges, which has already been rumored. There are also details about facial recognition.
The image of an iPhone without screen borders can be found in the Payment_glyph_phone-D22.caar file in the PassKitUIFoundation.framework of the HomePod firmware, discovered developer Steven Troughton-Smith. The schematic representation corresponds to the design that rumors have been talking about for the past few months.
The design depicts an iPhone with almost the entire front of it occupied by the screen, which does not have a Home button and which shows a strip at the top for the camera and speaker. In the firmware, the device is referred to as ‘D22’; the name ‘iPhone 8’ does not appear in the documentation.
Troughton-Smith also noted that there are references to unlocking iPhones with facial recognition via infrared in the firmware. Apple uses the term PearlID for this. The arrival of this biometric technique for unlocking iPhones was also mentioned in previous rumors.
