App Allows Assigning Bixby Button Galaxy S8 To Other App

There is a free app in the Play Store that allows the Bixby button of the Samsung Galaxy S8 to point to another app. The Bixby button leads users to a series of maps, but the Samsung service will be limited in use upon release in the Benelux.

The button assignment to another app is done via All In One Gestures, an app that has been in the Play Store for some time and does not have the primary function of assigning the Bixby button to another app. Users can assign the button to another app within All In One Gestures, because the app makes it possible to reset all buttons, writes XDA-Developers.

Samsung has placed the physical button on the left side of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ to put extra emphasis on the manufacturer’s new digital assistant. The intention is for the button to work context-sensitive in the future, but in the current version, after pressing the button, users will only see a screen with Google Now-like cards.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be released in two weeks, if the manufacturer delivers pre-orders. The device should be available in stores the following week. The manufacturer presented its smartphone last Wednesday, although it had already announced Bixby the week before. Samsung does not only want to integrate Bixby into smartphones, but later also make it work with other devices. Since the digital assistant is an online service, an internet connection and electronics to pick up voice commands are enough to integrate Bixby. As a result, customers with Samsung air conditioners or refrigerators should also be able to use Bixby in the future.
