Analyst: iPhone 14 Pro gets round hole and pill-shaped hole in screen

Apple gives the iPhone 14 Pro models two holes in the screen, according to analyst Ross Young. That would be a round hole and a pill-shaped hole. Behind the notches are the cameras and sensors for Face ID. The regular iPhones would get another notch.

According to Young of analyst firm Display Supply Chain Consultants, the round hole is intended for the dot projector used for Face ID. The pill-shaped notch would hold the infrared camera and front camera. With current iPhones, all these sensors are in the wide notch.

The image that Young in a tweet shows, is not actually of an iPhone screen, but for illustrative purposes only. Both notches would be in the center of the screen. The analyst is known for his good resources within the screen industry and has made reliable predictions in the past on products that have not yet been released.

That the iPhone 14 Pro models no longer have a notch was first revealed last year when Jon Prosser of FrontPageTech showed renders with the alleged design. Back then it was still assumed that Apple would put one round hole in the screen. At the beginning of this year, it was rumored that Apple is using a pill-shaped hole for the sensors.

If Apple wants to use the same Face ID sensors as with the current models, multiple notches are needed. The technique works with a projector, an infrared camera and a regular camera. The notch in recent iPhones also contains a light sensor and proximity sensor, the speaker and the microphone. Apple may place it in the top edge of the screen with the new models.

It is rumored that only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have screen holes. It would again be models with 6.1″ and 6.7″ screens. In addition, two regular iPhone 14 models would appear, with the same screen sizes, but with a notch in the screen. Apple is expected to announce its new iPhones in September.
