Nearly 40 percent of the smartphones sold in Europe have room for two SIM cards, analyst firm Canalys has calculated. The majority of the smartphones sold have space for only one SIM card.

The number of smartphones with dualsim capability grew by 8 percent within a year, as says Canalys . The share of dualsim phones now comes to around 39 per cent, compared to 55 per cent phones with a single SIM card. It is unknown what the third category is. Presumably it concerns devices with a mobile internet connection but without a SIM card.
The arrival of dualsim took longer than anywhere else in the world by providers, says a Canalys analyst. “Providers are paranoid about including dualsim phones in their product range, because it gives competitors the opportunity to sell services within their customer base.Due to the growth of dualsim in sales channels, brands such as Huawei and Wiko, providers have to review their portfolios and dualsim. “
Canalys also points out that more manufacturers are launching dualsim models in Europe. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is available as standard in a dual-version, the first Galaxy S-phone in which this is the case.
Canalys also notes that the sales of smartphones in Western Europe are rapidly decreasing, by about 13 percent compared to a year ago. In France and the United Kingdom there are even a quarter fewer smartphones over the counter than in early 2017. Samsung has the most market share, followed by Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi and Nokia licensee HMD Global.
