AMD will probably soon come with Pro variants of its Ryzen 5000 laptop processors. A Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U and Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U have since surfaced. The CPUs have appeared on HP’s website and in the UserBenchmark database.

From a UserBenchmark listing, noted by opgemerkt Twitter user Tum_Apisak, it turns out that the Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U laptop processor is believed to be based on the current Ryzen 7 5800U. The upcoming Pro variant has eight cores and sixteen threads. According to UserBenchmark, the chip has a clock speed of 1.90GHz, which is equal to the baseclock of the Ryzen 7 5800U. The benchmark database does not mention the turbo frequency, but states that the chip ran at an average speed of 3.65GHz.

The chip under test was in an unannounced HP EliteBook 845 G8 laptop. The manufacturer’s website also mentioned the 5850U CPU, including more extensive specifications. The webpage in question has since been taken offline, but was previously spotted by VideoCardz. The listing shows that the Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U has a boost clock of 4.40GHz. The chip would also receive 20MB of L3 cache. This makes the specifications almost identical to the regular Ryzen 7 5800U.

HP also announced the arrival of an unannounced Ryzen 5 5650U, which will presumably also include AMD’s Pro features. The 5650U is a hexacore CPU with a turbo frequency of 4.20GHz and 19MB L3 cache. This is also equal to the regular Ryzen 5 5600U. Presumably, the cpu is based on the Zen 3 architecture and the cpu will receive support for smt. HP doesn’t list specifications of the integrated Vega GPUs in the upcoming laptop chips, but it’s likely that they’ll also be identical to the Ryzen 7 5800U and Ryzen 5 5600U, respectively.

AMD has been releasing Pro variants of its Ryzen laptop processors for some time now. These models typically have similar specs to their regular counterparts, but add support for additional security features, among other things. For example, AMD offers a Memory Guard function, which encrypts system memory. AMD Pro CPUs also support Microsoft Endpoint Manager for cloud management and make it easier for system administrators to update employees’ laptops. The chips are mainly aimed at the business market. Intel offers similar CPUs in its vPro lineup.
