AMD is working on a 16-core processor on some die

AMD is working on an Opteron processor with eight dual-core modules for a total of sixteen cores on a single die. The uncore is also integrated on the die. It is an Opteron processor with Steamroller cores.

The work on the processor is apparent from a document Planet3dnow discovered on the AMD site. The document shows the schematic of a processor labeled ‘Family 15h processor model 30h-3Fh’. From this it can be deduced that it is a chip with Bulldozer modules and Steamroller cores, and not a model with Excavator cores, which will succeed Steamroller.

It can also be seen that there are eight modules and thus sixteen cores on the die and that an sri interconnect is connected to a crossbar, which in turn communicates with the memory controller on the one hand and the memory controller on the other. HyperTransport links. Of the HT links, one exclusively supports pci-e 3.0, while two are purely for HyperTransport and two are combined links.

It is unknown if and if so when AMD will release the chip, but since the chip design company wants to do it in 2014 and 2015 with its Opteron 6300 series, called Warsaw, it seems unlikely that the processor will appear before the end of 2015. The Opteron 6300 line also gets chips with sixteen cores, but this concerns two dies with eight cores each in a single G34 package. The first models in that line have just appeared at web shops, CPU-world notes.
