AMD has announced it has hired Mike Rayfield and David Wang. The two will be responsible for the Radeon Technology Group and report directly to AMD CEO Lisa Su. The appointment follows the departure of Raja Koduri to Intel.

Mike Rayfield has been named senior vice president and general manager of the AMD Radeon Technology Group. He’s from Micron, where he was in charge of the mobile division. Between 2005 and 2012, Rayfield worked at Nvidia as general manager of the mobile division. He has been in the industry for thirty years.
David Wang is hired to oversee the development of graphics chips. He will be named senior vice president of engineering. Wang currently works as a chief executive for Synaptics, but he previously worked for AMD and was responsible for system-on-a-chip design at the time. Before that, he already held technical positions at ATI, SGI and LSI Logic, among others.

AMD says Rayfield will be responsible for all strategic and business decisions regarding RTG in his position. Wang, in turn, is responsible for all aspects related to the development of graphics chips.
Furthermore, AMD has now grouped the division responsible for semi-custom chips under RTG. It concerns the business unit that makes the chips for consoles, for example. That was previously part of the Enterprise & Embedded unit. That division will now become the Datacenter and Embedded Solutions Business Group.
Last year CEO Raja Koduri left the graphics division of AMD and started working at Intel, to focus on the development of high-end GPUs. Koduri served at AMD from 2013 to 2017, the last two years of which as senior vice president and chief architect of the Radeon Technology Group. After Koduri’s departure, AMD CEO Lisa Su temporarily took over his duties.
