AMD has had source code removed from its GPUs with dmca requests from GitHub. An anonymous person published the source code of Navi 10, Navi 21 and Arden there. The person claims to own more source code and wants millions of dollars for it.

AMD confirmed in a statement that someone was contacted in December last year claiming to possess test files that “relate to some of our current and future graphics products.” AMD also confirms that some of those files have appeared online and have now been taken offline.

AMD also says it is aware that the person has more files that have not yet been made public. In addition, the manufacturer notes that this concerns intellectual property that ‘is not at the heart of the competitiveness or safety of our graphics products’. A criminal investigation is underway.

The files on Github related to Navi 10, Navi 21 and Arden. The former is the GPU that is in the current RX 5700 video cards. Navi 21 is probably the large GPU that AMD will use in future high-end video cards based on the RDNA 2 architecture. Arden is the codename of the AMD chip in the Xbox Series X. The files were removed by Github. The page now lists AMD’s dmca request.

TorrentFreak says it is in contact with the person who put the information online. The person tells the site that the source code was found in November last year on a computer or server that was not protected against certain exploits. The files were also not encrypted.

The person says he is looking for a buyer for the files and cites a value of one hundred million dollars. It is not clear what that is based on. “If I don’t find a buyer, I’ll just leak everything,” the person is said to have said.
