AMD will release a toolkit tomorrow that will enable software developers to explore the capabilities of AMD’s virtualization technology ‘Pacifica’, writes StoragePipeline. “SimNow,” as the product has been dubbed, is a processor simulator loaded with Pacifica code to help developers familiarize themselves with the development environment of AMD’s next-generation CPUs. Pacifica-enabled chips are expected to hit the market early next year. “Developers don’t need the hardware to see how the technology can be used and build applications,” said Margaret Lewis of AMD. Intel is also expected to introduce its Vanderpool virtualization technology next year. Both manufacturers expect that the processor support is necessary to create more efficient and secure virtual process environments. Currently, the user who wants to run more operating systems simultaneously still has to rely on software solutions from Microsoft and VMware, among others.
