1Password Releases Feature That Gives Administrators More Info About Users

Password Manager 1Password is releasing a feature for business users that allows administrators to see if employees have vulnerabilities or weak passwords. Insights is similar to the Watchtower feature, but for users within companies.

Insights is a dashboard for 1Password Business users, specifically for the administrators of a business environment. In that dashboard, administrators can see many types of information that in most cases can already be found elsewhere in one way or another. For example, there is an integration with Have I Been Pwned in 1Password that allows users to verify if their password was in a known data breach. In Insights, admins can see all affiliate email addresses from a particular domain. Admins can also see if users are using a weak password or if there is a weak password in a shared vault. They can’t see the password itself, but 1Password can tell you that based on a password’s structure or compare it to a list of known, leaked passwords.

Administrators can send users notifications if they think they need an update on something, for example if they don’t use the service enough or if a password leak is detected. Many of the new features are not entirely new; things like the breach checker or the password check are also already in Watchtower, a 1Password function for individual users.

In addition to these features, administrators can also see how 1Password is used within organizations. They can see who is using the private vault in addition to a shared vault and who is not and when users were last logged in. Also, users get a discount code to use 1Password Families, where administrators can see who redeems that code. All those reports can be printed monthly for reporting and compliance purposes.
